AubFest VI
Limited Edition Poster Series
AubFest is a music festival in Auburn, Alabama that is focused on celebrating local music and art with a local audience. Not only are all the bands local to the south, local food and art vendors are also invited to come a sell their goods to the patrons of the festival.
I designed six different posters to be sold at the festival and posted around Auburn, Birmingham, and Huntsville in anticipation of the fest.
Because the music festival is a product of the DIY music scene, I wanted the posters to feel handmade and organic. I used a few different typefaces from taylorpenton.com because their fonts are entirely handmade. I also added a framing white boarder as a reference to printing at home or on a budget. To make this poster AubFest-specific, I included an illsutration of the main stage as the anchoring backdrop of the poster, because it is the central location of the festival at Boggin’ on the Plains.
While AubFest is not as big as Lollapalooza or Bonnaroo yet, for a lot of these bands, this festival is their biggest show to date, and sometimes their first paid gig. I wanted the posters to feel legitimate for the artists and the audience. My dream is for these posters to be able to hang next to a High Water or ACL poster and have the same effect. I utilized gradients and bright colors as well as starbursts to portray the feeling of the stage lights, smoke, and camera flashes.
