Jennifer Chandler
Dive in 2 Art
Jennifer Chandler is a retired Olympian who made a name for herself in the 1976 Montreal Olympics when she won a gold medal for the United States. The Alabama native spent a lot of her youth in the pool and on the springboard, but always had a passion for art. Jennifer describes diving as “making art with her body” as she paints a line through the air. In the past few years, she has decided to focus on her art even more and chase her dream of making art professionally.
I wanted to create a brand for Jennifer that showcase her love for diving while illustrating the way she sees its connection to art in her life.
We photographed one of her seascape paintings so I could incorporate it into the card. With her painting acting as a backdrop, I collaged an old diving photo on top. I found a typeface that had a strong Roman versio and fluid Italic version that could be mixed to create a word mark that would is reminiscent of the shape of her body diving and the strokes a paint brush makes.
